The practical effects in the film are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.

The cast is solid and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an intimidating villain. The dialogue is hilarious and tongue-in cheek that it could be like a classic 1980s horror movie. There are also some genuinely funny moments throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.

Unfortunately, due to the budget being small (1 million dollars), many of the locations are duplicates of previous films. Hatchet 2's boat house was Decker Shado Hatchet 3 used only once, and the rest of the footage feels like it was reused from previous films. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel the film is familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was like the previous installments in the series. It provided lots of gory thrills as well as entertaining performances by the actors.
